Hi, my name is Gioele Kohler

I’m a wildlife photographer from Switzerland with a deep love for nature, the outdoors, cameras, and good coffee. Lots of it.

My very first photo was taken when I was 12 years old on my dad’s old analog camera. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, but something clicked, both literally and figuratively. Since then, photography has never really left me.

Over time it became a language I did not know I needed. A language built on light, patience, silence, and long hours spent quietly in the woods.

In my free time, you will usually find me birdwatching or shooting on film, yes, the kind you actually have to develop. There is something about analog photography that keeps me honest. No instant preview, no deleting the bad ones. Just you, the light, and the moment.

It reminds me that a great image was never really about megapixels. It was always about emotion.

Wildlife photography has taught me more about humility than almost anything else in life. You do not control the animal. You do not control the light. You do not control the moment. You simply show up, wait, and hope nature allows you to be part of it for a brief second.

And when everything finally comes together in a single frame, there is nothing quite like it. That is the magic. That is why I keep coming back.

Every animal you see on my profile was photographed in the wild. No zoos, no enclosures, no shortcuts. The encounters are rarer that way, and the waiting can sometimes be brutal, but the moments are infinitely more real because of it.

I follow ethical wildlife photography practices, keep my distance, and always put the wellbeing of the animal first. The best photograph in the world is never worth disturbing the creature standing in front of you.

My mission is simple.

I believe we only protect what we truly care about, and we only care about what we are able to see and understand.

Through my images, I hope to create a deeper connection between people and the natural world. Not to lecture anyone, but simply to share what I am lucky enough to witness.

Because maybe, if more people get the chance to see the beauty and fragility of wildlife, more people will begin to care.

And right now, nature could use a few more people on its side.
